Testing
You will find Jesus Christ at the center of all that we do. We are a family of believers in Andalusia, Alabama whose goal is simply to please God โ worshipping Him the way He has commanded, through His Word alone.
We believe new doesn't always mean better. Because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, we stay with the way God has commanded us to worship through His Word โ not our own opinions, but His Word taught with reverence and respect.
Don't you want to be able to point to the Bible and say, "This is why I do what I do in my service to the Lord"? That is what we strive for every Sunday.
"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another."

January 2026 • Genesis • Mark
In our journey through Genesis 16โ27, one theme rises above the rest: the lasting, generational impact of the choices we make โ especially in marriage and family. Abraham's story teaches us that trusting God in life's biggest decisions is never wasted.
“God will send His angel before you. He will work it out.” — Genesis 24:7 (Abraham to his servant)
The story of Abraham is one of extraordinary faith tested through extraordinary circumstances. Over these chapters we watched God take a man far from home and transform him into the father of faith โ but this week the spotlight fell on the next generation and the choices that would define it.
When Abraham sent his servant to find a wife for Isaac (Genesis 24), the instruction was clear: "Do not take a wife from the daughters of the Canaanites." The Canaanites were idolators. They did not worship the one true God. Abraham understood that who your child marries shapes not only that child's life, but the lives of generations to come.
The servant asked a reasonable question: "What if she won't come? Should I take your son back there?" Abraham's answer was firm: "Whatever you do, do not take my son from this land." God had promised this land to Abraham. But he also expressed a deep trust: "God will send His angel before you." If we trust God in the important decisions, He will work it out.
Genesis 22 stands as one of the most dramatic tests of faith in all of Scripture. God asked Abraham to offer Isaac โ and Genesis 22:1 makes clear this was a test. Abraham passed. He rose early, made the journey, and when Isaac asked where the lamb was, Abraham answered, "God will provide." He trusted that even if he obeyed, God could raise Isaac from the dead (Hebrews 11:19). And God did provide.
From our reading in Mark, we considered what discipleship truly costs. The Lord calls us to take up our cross โ to follow Him whatever life requires. And in Mark 9:1, Jesus said some standing there would not taste death before the kingdom came. That kingdom arrived on Pentecost (Acts 2). It is not a future earthly reign. It is the church, ruling now in the hearts of those who follow Him.
The lasting impact of your choices โ in faith, in family, in following God โ ripples further than you know. Let us choose wisely, and trust God with what we cannot control.
September 2024 • Worship • New Testament Pattern
What does it mean to truly worship God? In our "Restoring the Church" series, we look at how the local church is to worship according to the New Testament โ going back to the original, not adding to or taking away from what God has given us.
“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” — John 4:24
Every Sunday, we come together on the Lord's day to do something very important: to worship the only true and living God, and to build up one another in the most holy faith. But how does God want to be worshiped? That question has divided Christianity for centuries. The answer is found in the New Testament.
When we talk about "restoring the church," we mean going back to the original design โ the pattern established by Christ and His apostles in the first century. The goal is not tradition for its own sake. The goal is truth.
1. Singing (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16) "Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord." The New Testament calls for vocal, congregational singing โ without instrumental accompaniment. Our worship is a cappella because we believe this most closely reflects the pattern God gave.
2. Prayer (Acts 2:42) The early church "continued steadfastly in prayer." Prayer is not a formality โ it is direct communication with the Father, an essential act of worship.
3. The Lord's Supper (Acts 20:7) "On the first day of the week, the disciples came together to break bread." We observe the Lord's Supper every Sunday โ not monthly or quarterly โ in remembrance of Christ's body and blood.
4. Giving (1 Corinthians 16:1โ2) "On the first day of every week, let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper." Giving is an act of worship, offered freely and proportionally.
5. Teaching and Preaching (Acts 2:42; 2 Timothy 4:2) The early church "continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine." The Word of God is central. It is not one element among many โ it is the foundation beneath all the others.
These five elements, and the New Testament authority for each, form the foundation of our worship. We don't add to them. We don't take away. This is how we seek to worship God in spirit and in truth.
August 2024 • Salvation • Identity in Christ
What was the most important day of your life? For every Christian, one day surpasses all others โ the day you became a child of God. This message explores the weight and wonder of that moment, and the eternal identity it bestows.
“Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!” — 1 John 3:1
These words from the apostle John capture something extraordinary. To be called a child of God is not a small thing. It is a declaration of the highest honor, the deepest love, and the most profound transformation a person can experience.
As Moses stood before the Israelites in Deuteronomy 27, he reminded them of a momentous occasion: "Today you have become His people." God had made a covenant with them โ "I will be your God, and you shall be My people." With that covenant came a promise: He would bless them, set them high above other nations, and bring them into a good land.
But that covenant pointed forward to something even greater โ the covenant of grace in Jesus Christ. When you are baptized into Christ (Romans 6:3โ4), you enter a new covenant. Like Israel at the foot of the mountain, you can say: "Today I became His."
Your identity changes. You are no longer defined by the world's standards. You belong to God. "Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him" (1 John 3:1). You are somebody different now than you used to be.
Your standing changes. God looks at you as part of His special people โ set apart from the world to proclaim His praises (1 Peter 2:9). You are elevated, not by your own merit, but by grace.
Your destination changes. The contrast between earthly Canaan and Heaven is striking. In Canaan there was crying, pain, and sorrow. In Heaven โ none of those things. As the preacher put it: "There'll be no night there. It'll be wonderful." This is the inheritance of God's children.
Whether you became a Christian long ago or are still considering it, the invitation stands. The same call the apostles proclaimed on Pentecost still rings out today: believe, repent, confess, and be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38) โ and you too can experience the day everything changed.
We want your first visit to feel comfortable and welcoming. Here is a little of what you can expect when you worship with us at Stanley Avenue โ a place where you can "worship God in spirit and in truth." (John 4:24)
